View Chateau Ste. Michelle 2006 Columbia Valley Washington St. Dry Riesling Ann & Mark Floral bouquet on opening, citrus bouquet on pour. Lemon/ orange spiced citrus tones. Slightly effervescent. Pleasing gold yellow color. Hard fast cooling improves flavor. Pineapple back and honey, pear cinnamon fore. Drink VERY cold. A- Very nice wine! under $12
View Long Flat 2004 Eden Valley Australia Riesling Ann & Mark Hint of pineapple; lemon back taste; hint of mint. Slight effervescence. Light taste, not over sweet. B   under $12
View Climbing 2004 Orange Australia Merlot Mark Nice yeasty, blackberry notes on opening. Light body, blackberry, current flavors in the fore. Smokey aftertaste that lingers. B This is a very nice wine... it would be great if there was more body to it. I do not recommend decanting the wine; it mutes the flavors too much. under $12
View Red Diamond 2002 Paterson Washington St. Shiraz Mark Very nice smooth wine. Aroma of berries and earth on opening. Blackberry and blueberry flavors to the fore in a smooth bodied wine. Slight mint aromatics as after notes. B This is one of my favorite bargain wines. under $8
View Columbia Crest 2006 Columbia Valley Washington State Reisling Ann Over-ripe pineapple aroma upon opening. Sightly effervescent. Initially slightly sweet lemon, apricot, and peach tones. Smooth on the tongue. Canned fruit cocktail with cherry aftertaste. Bland generic pear flavor after more intense chilling C+ Never cared for canned fruit cocktail but tolerable with cheese and crackers. under $8
View Columbia Crest 2004 Columbia Valley Washington St. Cabernet Sauvignon Ann On opening there are cherry/ cinnamon aromas. The first sips bit the tongue. For the rest of the drinking...it just burns the back of the throat. C- Maybe the wine tasted this bad because I was retainer impaired! under $8
View Paringa Estate 2003 Victoria Australia Merlot Ann & Mark What a pleasant surprise this wine is. It almost merits an "A" rating. There is a nice aroma of berries, fruit, and oak on opening. The primary flavors are of Black raspberry, currents and, yes, honey! The wine is light bodied (perhaps a bit of a down-side). The after taste of this wine is interesting and fun, too-- there are aromatics of sweet grass and clovers. B+ We drank this wine after viewing the Denver Botantic gardens Christams lights display. An outstanding evening! under $8
View Alice White 2005 SE Australia Australia Cabernet - Shiiraz Mark Yeasty aroma on opening. Flavors are odd but not horrible- there is a strong flavor of Green Grass; but there is no berry flavor. The body is watery. I tried to save the wine using my magic funnel; the wine opened up to having almost no flavor whatsoever except for a slight green aromatic. C This wine would be best mixed with 7-up or in a winter glugg. under $8
View Black Swan 2006 SE Australia Australia Shiraz Mark On Opening there is a nice aroma of berries, leather and oak. The tastes are of current and blackberry with a hint of pine. There are lingering flavors and aromatics of leather and grass. The wine is very light bodied. B   under $8
View Kendall-Jackson 2006 Jackson Estates California Chardonney Mark Nice light aromas of apple and pears. Interesting flavors of lemon, pineapple and granny smith apples with a hint of oakiness. B+ Very nice wine! under $12
View Rosemount Estate 2004 SE Australia Australia Shiraz- Grenache Mark Strong aroma of berries, yeast and leather. Very smooth bodied. Nice flavors of Black raspberry, Chocolate, and Blackberry. Armoatics and lingering flavors of Blueberry, earth and coffee. B+ A very good wine. under $12
View Glen Ellen 2005   California Merlot Ann Yeasty (fresh baked bread) aroma upon opening.
Thin legs. Rasberry up front with black currant back. Very dry but smooth. Good color.
B   under $8
View Barefoot 0000   California Merlot Ann Musky & earthy aroma upon opening.
Semi-harsh with first sips. No distinctive overtones or aftertaste. Bland. Vanilla tone developed after vigorous sloshing. Definitely needs decanting before serving. Beauty, again, is in the eye of the beholder.
C- Carries a special label from The Wine Wench as "Very Pretty" under $8
View Diablo Creek 2005   California Merlot Ann No noticeable aroma upon opening or pouring.
Dry and smooth with no distinctive front, back, or after tones. Misty berry flavors & aromas developed later making for pleasant sipping with dinner.
C+   under $8
View Bogle 2005   California Old Vine Zinfandel Mark This was my first disappointing Bogle, ever. The wine was thin and tasted of green grass and cherry with a strong green after taste. I suppose it could be saved by hearting it with spices! C- Despite a vinegary cork odor, Ann found her 2005 bottle to be smooth with black cherry and raspberry notes up front and a strong vanilla finish. Oak not noticeable. B- under $12
